About The Book

A gay man born into an Italian-American family in New Jersey, David A.J. Richards has written over 20 books on the basic rights of American constitutionalism, including his prominent defense of gay rights and a feminism, which joins men and women in resisting patriarchy. His work on gay rights was prominently cited by the Indian Supreme Court decision recently recognizing gay rights as human rights.

In his book titled Boys’ Secrets and Men’s Loves: A Memoir, Richards explores his own experience of how the initiation of boys into patriarchy inflicts trauma leading them mindlessly to accept patriarchal codes of masculinity. It discusses how through the arts and philosophy and experience, including mutual love, he and others (straight and gay men) come to join women in resisting patriarchy,  through the discovery of how deeply it harms men as well as women.

Boys’ Secrets and Men’s Loves: A Memoir aims for readers to understand how the initiation of boys into patriarchy leads them mindlessly to accept patriarchal codes of masculinity that harm them as well as women, and why awareness of this process is the key to resistance.
